Singapore 1st December 2022: The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Samuh Mediatech, Nyema Zam, won the Global RISE Awards 2022 for the category ‘Females leading Business Operations in the Media, Broadcast and Technology Sector’ held in London, United Kingdom on November 30, 2022.
Samuh is Bhutan’s first OTT platform that streams Bhutanese films, TV series, documentaries, short films, music videos and animation content. Officially launched in July 2022, Samuh is available in more than 117 countries around the world.
RISE received over 300 applications from around the world for the RISE Awards 2022. Nyema Zam was among the top seven finalists for the award, comprising women leaders and trailblazers from around the world. The award was in recognition of her achievements as a woman leader running a business within the broadcast industry and her outstanding leadership while achieving remarkable business growth.
RISE is a non-profit organization based in UK, who advocates for a diverse and gender balanced workforce across the broadcast media and entertainment technology sector, specifically within the areas of engineering, technical operations, sales, marketing, and business.
Speaking at the awards ceremony through live videoconference, Nyema Zam said that globally the number of women CEOs in the technology, media and broadcast sector is significantly lower than men and this number is even lower in developing countries.
“In Bhutan and in the Pan-Himalayan region, it is rare to see women leading media and broadcast companies. I have been particularly fortunate and blessed because our King and Queen are the biggest patrons of the creative and technology sector” she said.
She also said that leadership is only possible by women when people, communities, policy makers and governments support women led businesses and initiatives.
Nyema Zam hopes that this award will inspire more women in Bhutan to lead businesses and thus increase the number of women in leadership roles in the business world, especially in the technology, media, and broadcast space.
